Dorothy McCabe’s re-election campaign focused on affordability, opportunity and vibrancy

WATERLOO, ON — Nominations for Waterloo’s municipal election closed Friday. Dorothy McCabe launched her campaign for a second term as Mayor of Waterloo in the spring, and has spent the summer meeting with residents across the city. With the race now set, McCabe welcomes all those who have put their names forward to seek public office on October 26.
“I’m running for re-election because I love this city, I believe in where we’re going, and there is more work to do,” said McCabe.
Over the past four years, Waterloo has tackled major challenges around housing, affordability, climate change, and our growing economy. Under Dorothy's leadership, the city made real progress by focusing on long-term solutions, collaborating with residents and businesses, and making the tough calls that put Waterloo first.
“We’ve turned big ideas into action. We’re moving forward with new affordable housing on city land. Waterloo will be home to our region’s new hospital. We’re investing in our parks, local businesses, neighbourhoods, and the jobs and industries that will shape our future.”
“I’m proud of what this council has accomplished. Now it’s time to build on that progress. I’m running because I believe I’m the right person to lead Waterloo through what comes next.”
McCabe’s campaign will focus on three priorities: making Waterloo more affordable, creating more local opportunity, and building a more vibrant city.
That means working with partners to build more housing and improve city services; supporting local businesses, attracting investment and creating jobs; and investing wisely in Waterloo’s neighbourhoods, parks, arts, festivals and public spaces; while being mindful of the tax burden on property owners.
“People want a city they can afford to live in, a city where there are good jobs and opportunities, and a city with great neighbourhoods and places that bring us together,” said McCabe. “That’s what we’re going to keep working toward.”
“This election is about the Waterloo we want to build together. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, excited about what comes next, and I believe I’m the right person to keep moving Waterloo forward.”
Voting day is Monday, October 26, 2026.
